New paint is an easy and relatively cheap way to spruce up any room!
Bright colors can add flair and make a room cheery. A popular style
is to paint three walls a neutral tone (white or beige) and one focus wall
a deeper color, like red or yellow. Painting a room is easy enough
for anyone (with time to spare!) to do without the help of professionals.
Whether you are painting an exterior or an interior, a small space or a large one, the painter has a wide variety of painting tools to choose from. Selecting the right tools for the job can mean the difference between a beautiful paint job and a mediocre one. The right tools can also save labor and time.
- Brushes. You may be completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of paintbrushes available. Be sure to choose the right paintbrush for the paint or stain you are using. As a general rule of thumb, brushes with natural bristles are best for oil-based paints and varnishes. Both polyester and nylon bristles can be used with oil-based and latex paints. Nylon is more durable, while polyester is more resilient in high temperatures. If you are looking for a combination of durability and resilience, try a polyester/nylon hybrid.
- Pads. Pads will allow you to apply paint faster than a brush, and are ideal for flat surfaces. The closer the fibers on the pad are, the smoother the paint can be applied. Pads come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes.
- Rollers. Rollers allow for a very fast application on flat surfaces. Rollers come in different nap lengths. The nap length you choose will vary according to the surface you are painting. The shorter the nap, the smoother the surface will be. Rollers are made from various materials, including both natural and synthetic fibers. Larger rollers are good for larger projects, while smaller rollers will allow the painter to get into nooks and crannies and other small spaces.
